Description and Details of Project:

Performing Arts Facility, Trade Training Centre and Canteen Facilities

Established in 1930, St John’s College Woodlawn is a co-education Catholic Secondary School situated in a charming rural setting 5 km from Lismore and is rich in heritage and tradition. DAC was commissioned by the school to prepare development applications for a number of new facility buildings which will compliment the existing school grounds.

At an estimated cost of $2.5 million, the proposed new Performing Arts Building is designed to be sympathetic with but easily distinguishable from the old buildings on the site. The building identified as the original bake house has significant heritage value and is to be reused as a part of the foyer of the new development.

The proposed new Trade Training (Hospitality), consisting of a new Canteen area, Hospitality Training Kitchen, change rooms, offices, storerooms and laundry and the Centre and Trade Training (Furniture Making) will allow the school to offer appropriate facilities for students to participate in trade training courses and obtain Certificate II qualifications in construction, hospitality and manufacturing to address skills shortages in the associated trades of cabinetmaker, carpenter, joiner and cook. The estimated cost of this new facility is $1 million.
